Welcome to

     Jordan Elementary School

At this time we would like to formally welcome all parents/guardians and students to Jordan Elementary School.                          It is extremely important for you to take time to read the following information regarding the policies                                      and procedures for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

VISITORS TO SCHOOL

We welcome visitors to our school. For the protection of students and security in the building, all visitors must report to the office immediately after entering the building. Visitors must obtain permission from the school office in order to go anywhere else in the building. During the school day, only the front door is unlocked. Please do not attempt to enter the building from any other doors. Permission is granted at the discretion of the office staff, in accordance with school operations.

SCHOOL HOURS

The school office is open from 7:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. Students may arrive at school at 8:00 A.M. when gymnasium supervision begins. The instructional day begins at 8:25 A.M. and students should be in the building before 8:15 A.M.  Students are dismissed at 3:05 P.M. if they walk home or are picked up by car and bus riders are dismissed at 3:15 P.M.

ATTENDANCE

In order to experience school success, regular school attendance is necessary. If a student is absent because of an illness or emergency, please call the office (533-7145) before 9:15 A.M. on the day of the absence. The office will attempt to contact the home if no call is received. If you do not have a contact phone number, please send in a note of explanation of absence when your child returns to school.

Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds during the day, unless a written communication from the parent is received. Separate, dated notes must be sent for each day that the child will be leaving school. Students must be signed out by an adult at the office before leaving the building. We would ask that parents and guardians please try to avoid scheduling appointments during the school day. Also, if at all possible, the school recommends that students not miss school days for vacation or similar trips.

School attendance is very important and it is taken very seriously. We work closely with the Regional Office of Education’s Truant Office in situations where students are chronically absent or tardy.  We ask that parents do everything in their power to get their child to and from school in a timely manner.
